We swore we wouldn’t get a puppy because it might be too much for Chewbacca.
We were sure an older dog would be the best companion for him in his sickly, golden years.
Even the 4-year-old coonhound mix, Mandy, whom we met last week seemed a little much for him.
We were supposed to check out an 8-year-old cocker mix at the Salem Animal Rescue League Wednesday night only to find out when we arrived he’d been adopted.
Then we met… Toffee. And all three of us – Rick, Chewbacca and me – fell in love.
She’s a 5-month-old shepherd mix who’s the color of, well, toffee.
She’s sweet and gentle and eager to please, but still with her licky-puppiness.
She’s a “first” I’m glad to share.
Here’s a picture. Hope to post a video later.
she is gorgeous! When my mother's pup, Max, died, my parents initially swore that they wouldn't ever get another dog. Rewrite,II (pronounced: Rewrite the Second), mourned for all her poor little heart and soul were worth. And eventually, my mother, did, too. From there the search for a companion for both of them began. My parents, like you, worried about how Rewrite, II would do with a new dog in the house. After all, she had not only been with them for many years by then, but she'd also been Top Dog and an only child for a bit, too. Eventually a new puppy was adopted from a friend who had previously worked for my mother. His name was Beau (pronounced Bo - short for Beauregard-something-something-Warner.)Beau and Rewrite had a bit of a, ummm...how should I decribe it to you....um, a peeing contest? at first, but after a bit, each established themselves as the dominant dog in a different room of the house, with a different person in the house, and both were plenty glad to be hugged, kissed and carried around. Neither one liked to walk in the FL grass, and both of them liked doggy treats. Beau - a dog who definitely takes after my folks' oldest child - picks the dried carrots and peas out of the all-natural dog food my parents are feeding them now. And Rewrite,II, continues to roll onto her back in the middle of the driveway, anxious for any visitor to rub her belly. Somehow, I think your two almost-brand new pups will be just fine, too.
